Event General Manager – Heerenveen (F/M) | CDI
In 2030, France and Netherlands will come alive to the rhythm of the Olympic Winter Games (1–17 February) and Paralympic Winter Games (1–10 March).
Behind every achievement that will define these Games, and every athlete crossing the finish line to the cheers of the world, there will have been years of hard work, commitment and passion.
A team is already working to make these moments possible — and it continues to grow as we take this extraordinary project all the way to the finish line.
Today, we are looking for our future Event General Manager to join our team within our Heerenveen cluster!
At Alpes 2030, we are not simply preparing the world’s greatest sporting event: we are creating a unique human adventure.
This journey will span several territories across the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur regions in France, as well as the province of Friesland in the Netherlands:
Lyon Metropolitan Cluster (Organising Committee headquarters and ice sports);
Briançon Cluster (freestyle skiing and snowboard);
Savoie Cluster (alpine skiing, ski jumping, bobsleigh, luge and skeleton);
Haute-Savoie Cluster (biathlon and cross-country skiing);
Heerenveen – Thialf (speed skating).
Joining our team means taking part in a historic collective endeavour and leaving your mark on one of the world’s greatest sporting events.
Your playing field:
The Thialf venue was selected in June 2026 to host the Alpes 2030 Olympic speed skating events, following a bid process launched in December 2025.
A host community contract has been signed between the Alpes 2030 OCOG and the Dutch local authorities, setting out the arrangements for organising the Olympic Games in the territory and for sharing responsibilities between the Alpes 2030 OCOG and the future Dutch Local Organising Committee (LOC), covering both the competition venue and the related operations: Olympic village, transport, engagement and celebration across the territory, etc.
Reporting to the Operations Department, the Event General Manager holds overall responsibility for the operations of the Heerenveen cluster, for representing the OCOG in the Netherlands and for coordination with the LOC across all the functions required to organise the Games.
Your role:
He/she leads the preparation and operational delivery of the Games within his/her scope, ensures coordination across the functional departments and represents the OCOG in the Netherlands, in liaison with the Executive Management.
He/she is fully accountable for operational performance, risk management and the quality of delivery of the Thialf competition venue, the Olympic village and the events associated with Alpes 2030 in the Netherlands.
Your responsibilities:
Strategic Preparation and Management of Operations
Define the strategic vision and operational direction of the cluster, ensuring overall consistency with the objectives of the Alpes 2030 OCOG and with the delivery of sporting competitions of the very highest level.
Define and implement the committee structure and operational coordination with the signatory entities of the host community contract.
Design, plan and make decisions on the venue-by-venue operational concept, with a focus on efficiency, sustainability, performance and resource optimisation.
Ensure proper alignment between operational needs, regulatory constraints, budgetary issues and venue delivery requirements.
Oversee the definition of staffing requirements and their short-, medium- and long-term projections, and contribute to resource allocation decisions at the level of the Operations Department and the Heerenveen Cluster team.
Maintain strategic monitoring of risks, opportunities, operational alternatives and innovations likely to improve Games preparation within the cluster and escalate them to the appropriate level within the OCOG.
Management and Operational Delivery of the Olympic Games
Lead and secure the planning, coordination and implementation of all cluster-related operations (accommodation, transport, flows, logistics, temporary technical production, security, services to delegations, etc.), in full coordination with the Dutch Local Organising Committee (LOC).
Oversee the implementation by the LOC and the signatories of the host community contract of the obligations of the host community contract and of the associated guarantees and responsibilities.
Ensure the full integration and coordination of all the functional roles of the other Departments involved in the Netherlands (Revenue, Celebrations…) and the consistency of the local project with the overall Games organisation project.
Ensure that service level commitments are met and manage the quality of venue delivery during the pre-opening, operational and post-event reinstatement phases.
Provide functional and strategic oversight of the operational teams, ensuring constant alignment with their business line and with project priorities.
Establish robust operational governance with the Dutch LOC enabling swift issue resolution, smooth coordination and effective decision-making in complex situations, in the interests of the Alpes 2030 OCOG.
Lead operational risk management and ensure appropriate escalation to the Operations Department and the Executive Management, with well-argued recommendations and mitigation plans.
Institutional Representation and Advocacy for the Project’s Interests
Represent the Alpes 2030 OCOG on all operational matters with local stakeholders: the Municipality of Heerenveen, the Province of Friesland, Dutch government services, transport operators, economic players, sports federations, private partners and international bodies.
Provide leadership of local governance bodies, in close liaison with the Dutch LOC, by chairing steering committees, coordination meetings and inter-institutional working groups.
Champion and defend the interests of the OCOG and the Alpes 2030 project in territorial negotiations, including in situations of tension or complex trade-offs.
Ensure the consistency of the project across the whole of the Netherlands and guarantee that local commitments comply with the standards, requirements and constraints of the OCOG.
Promote the values, legacy and ambitions of the Alpes 2030 Games, strengthening the buy-in, mobilisation and trust of local stakeholders.
